Ailing Bangla pop guru and freedom fighter Azam Khan flew to Singapore on Wednesday for better medical treatment.
Azam's only son Hriday Khan is accompanying him. At about 1.30 pm they left Bangladesh in a Thai Airlines flight from Shahjalal International Airport.
The pop song pioneer has been suffering from mouth cancer. He will be admitted to Singapore's Mount Elizabeth Hospital.
Azam's elder daughter Ima Khan told bdnews24.com that he was expected to reach Singapore at 11pm.
Prior to getting on the airplane, Azam talked to the reporters waiting at the Terminal-1 of the airport. He said, "I got your warm love when I was in the country. I hope that I'll come back to you and start working on some more albums. Pray for me so that I can be again with you."
The prime minister donated Tk 200,000 in cash for medical help.
