Father, son killed by tiger in Sundarbans

A tiger allegedly killed two fishermen (shrimp collectors) in a migrant area of deep jungle near Kadamtala outpost under Burigoalini forest station of Satkhira range of the Sundarbans west wing on Tuesday (July 6) night. The deceased were identified as shrimp collector Nawshad Gazi, (65), son of late Omar Ali Gazi and Nawshad Gazi's son Ismail Hossain, (14), of south Kadamtala village under Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira district.
According to forest officials, Nawshad Gazi and along with his son Ismail Hossain and few others went to the Sundarbans by a small boat with legal pass issued by the Forest Department for netting shrimp in Satkhira range of the Sundarbans west wing a few days ago. But they could not return alive.
Fishermen and forest guards' sources said that a flesh-eating tiger lying nearby bush suddenly swooped on Ismail Hossain from behind on Tuesday (July 6) night when they were netting fish at Rameshwar river bank under Burigoalini forest station area of the Sundarbans. The tiger dragged Ismail Hossain into the deep forest. He died on the spot. At that time his father Nawshad Gazi went to rescue Ismail from the tiger and the tiger attacked Nawshad Gazi and killed him on the spot. Hearing the news, the fishermen who were netting fish in the neighbourhood rushed to the spot and with the help of forest guards recovered bodies of Nawshad Gazi and Ismail from the clutches of the tiger in mutilated condition this (Wednesday) morning at around 11 am. Kadamtala Station Officer (SO) of Satkhira range of the Sundarbans west wing, Md Masudul Alam, confirmed this incident over cell phone.
