Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated Amar Ekushey Book Fair on February 01, 2014 at 3.00 pm in Dhaka Bangla Academy. Bangla Academy authorities have taken all-out preparation to arrange the month-long ‘Amar Ekushey Book Fair’ hoping to witness an increased number of participating publishers.
This year Book fair arranged widely and extended numbers of stalls to Suhrawardy Udyan, beside Bangla Academy premises. Government
sponsored publications allowed to set up their stalls inside the Bangla Academy bunday, and all the private publishing houses at Suhrawardy Udyan.
Tighten security has been beefed up at both the grounds, and there are proper arrangements for sanitation and drinking water for visitors.
The Bangla Academy Literary Award 2013 awarded to 11 personalities at the inaugural session.
“Chhittaranjan Saha Smrity Purashkar” & “Munier Chowdhury Smrity Purashkar” awarded to the best publishers for quality publications in 2013.
The first Book Fair was held 1972 in an informal manner at the Bangla Academy premises. Officially the Book Fair organized by Bangla Academy from 1978 and the fair named “Amar Ekushey Grantha Mela” in 1984.
Discount: Bangla Academy will provide 30% discount and private publishers will provide 25% discount on the book price.
Fair Duration: From February 01, to the 28th
Book Fair Time: 3pm – 9pm every and 11am – 9am on holidays.
On 21 February, as the International Mother Language day and Martyrs’s Day. the book fair will remain open from 8am to 9pm.
Ekushey Book Fair Location: Amar Akushey Book Fair is located in the premises of the Bangla Academy, just-south side of the University of Dhaka.
How to go Book Fair: You can go to Amar Ekushey Book Fair from any place of the Dhaka
city by CNG three-wheeler or Rikshow even by bus to near of the fair. Come to Shahbagh by bus, then ask the Rikshow pooler to go there, the rent from Shahbag to Book fair would be from Tk. 20 to Tk.30. If you come from any place of Dhaka to Golistan by bus, then you can go to the book fair by Rikshow, the rent would be 20 – 30 taka only. You can go by walk from these two places within 10 to 15.
Amar Ekushe Book Fair 2015 in Bangladesh started on February 01 for a month long.
